First news from Oz!

01:59:00

Hi guys!

we have finally have found some time to write our first post from Sydney! As you might for Facebook, we arrived last Thursday night, and have been trying to get rid of the jetlag ever since! We might sound a bit dramatic, but honestly, last night was the first day when we managed to stay awake long enough to go to bed at a normal time and not wake up at 4 in the morning lol

Anyway, lets start with a summary of what has been happening with us since we took that plane to OZ! First of all, we have to say a huge THANK YOU to Joe's company for getting us business class ! although probably after that experience we are ruined forever, and we will never be able to be comfortable in Economy class anymore :( yeah, we are posh, but you get used to it so quickly when you get offered food and drinks 20 times in 1 hour! lol so first we did the 7 hour flight to Dubai, pretty smooth, watched a couple of movies and done, and then after stopping 1.5 hours there, we did the 13 hours bit to Sydney. The seats are amazing, you can lay down completely and feel like you are in your own little spaceship. Super comfortable, good food and service, access to business lounge in the airports... you could even take a shower (we're sounding like a rating agency now... sorry)!! see the video below:

And after the flight explanation, we arrived in the airport and took a taxi to our hotel. We have one month paid accommodation in the city center. The room is quite big, and it's good coz we have a little kitchen, washing machine, wifi, etc. It is very central and only like 10 minutes walk to Joe's office, so next Monday when he starts working it'd be perfect.

We woke up on Friday morning and went straight to the bank. We had opened the account online and trasnferred some money but you need to go personally to activate it. After that we tried to get a phone number with no success, as this is worse than London! We only wanted a pay as you go sim card to start with, but they ask you for a million documents to do a credit check! we submitted everything and now they have to see if they want to approve us as customers... so no Aussie number yet, we are hoping we have it by the end of the week.

So after the paperwork checks, we obviously wanted to see the Opera House, which we have to say was amazinnnnnnnng! honestly when you get there it's breathtaking, it was just when we got there that it finally felt like we made it to Sydney! the harbour is super beautiful, and we were so excited by the views that we decided to have lunch right there next to the building, as there are loads of terraces and outdoor restaurants (you have to be careful though, as it's full of angry-starving-attacking-seagulls that try to steal your food from you every 5 minutes).

And well, after that first day walking around in the center and shopping a few bits in the supermarket (I will do a review on the food shopping experience another day, dedicated to Marta Granell and my mum who are dying of curiosity) we just went to bed to be ready for the flat viewings we had arranged straight from the next day! Not to get you too bored, we'll write about this on the next post, as it has been pretty crazy lol we have a few more flat inspections this week and hopefully we find a nice house soon with the promised "sofa-bed" for all you to come sleep in!

The weather has been a bit bad, lets say like "Bristih summer" type, around 18 degrees during the day and maybe 10 at night. It does not feel very cold but it's been raining quite A LOT.  The city is very hilly, so the streets go up and down, and turn into mini-rivers!

I don't know about other people's opinions, but the CBD (that's how they call the financial district) reminds us a bit of New York with touches of London. We love it, but definitely after visiting Bondi beach, we have confirmed once again we prefer to live by the sea! the city is quite busy, really cool but like any other city center, whilst the beach is chilled, more residential, there is nice cool cafes and restaurants, everyone walks around carrying their surfboards... you know, if you come here from London, that's what you have in mind!!

So yes as mentioned, we'll keep you posted on the flat hunting and share some more pictures soon! If you have any questions or quries or can't live without knowing something about Sydney, feel free to ask us!

Speak to you soon miss you all :(
